Today was my first "field trip"! Together with some colleagues responsible for the forests in the Bükk National Park and some volunteers from other departments, we went to Bélapátfalva, a small town about 20 km from Eger.
In the nearby forest area, two areas of about 5 hectares were recently fenced off to protect the seedlings inside. Among other things, beech, maple, and other local trees were planted. Unfortunately, there were two deer in one of the fenced areas, so there was a risk that the freshly planted saplings would be eaten by them.
Our task now was to shoo the intruders out again with the help of loud shouts and noise. We also wore colourful, eye-catching clothes to be seen better. Not so easy!
We lined up and strolled towards the exit gate from one end of the enclosure. We tried to make so much noise that the deer were startled and ran from us towards the exit gate. After a few attempts, we were successful, and the deer were free again.
Afterwards, we stopped for a drink in Bélapátfalva and then drove back to the directorate. A successful morning!
