21. THE TRAVERTINE FORMATIONS OF THE SEBES-VÍZ VALLEY

The springs of the Sebes-víz Valley, accessible from Ómassa via a yellow-marked hiking trail, originate at the foot of the Nagy Plateau and feed into the Garadna Stream.

The Alsó-Sebesvíz spring is one of the most active travertine formations in the Bükk Mts., and the travertine cascades in the gorge-like valley are a special sight.

The Huba spring, which is still relatively abundant but has an extremely fluctuating water flow, rises in the middle section of the valley. The area around the spring is home to a rich invertebrate fauna typical of cold, clear springs. Beautiful travertine barriers with characteristic moss flora are formed on the steeper section below the Huba Spring.

The Sebesvíz Valley is part of the Bükk National Park. It can be visited freely on a tourist trail.
