3. EGERSZALÓK, “SALT HILL”

In 1961, during hydrocarbon exploration drilling on the outskirts of Egerszalók, hot water at a temperature of 65°C gushed out from a depth of 410 meters due to the pressure prevailing deep underground. The area surrounding the high-carbonated hydrogen carbonate medicinal water has been a spa resort since the 1980s, with several baths built on it.

Over the past 60 years, the high dissolved calcium content of the karst water has created an attractive snow-white travertine hill, commonly known as the "salt hill," with small dams and pools behind it.

The travertine hill is located outside the beach area and is open to the public.
